Reason #318: Gravity Sucks
Why is gravity? What it is can easily be understood through science, but not why? Why does all of creation have to be under the glaring rule of this harsh taskmaster? Maybe it is because gravity is the impetus that ignites the cycle of life. We grow up, but then at a certain point we head back down until we are pushing up again…daisies that is. In the moment gravity can be a real drag, a “fun thief,” but I guess when you step back and look at the big picture, it is necessary. I mean if I were the one to have authored this masterpiece that is our world, I might have left the element of gravity off the canvas. Wouldn’t that be cool? Things would be so much easier. We would then never have to fear “looking down” again. But thankfully to us all, I didn’t have that privilege, so I guess I will just have to be satisfied living under the conditions of the one who did. Fighting gravity thus becomes a daily chore. We have to remind ourselves while ascending to higher levels of human existence not to look down. Because if you do, you might just find yourself hurling wildly and uncontrollably back to the place from whence you began and the impact can be devastating. So we vow not to allow gravity to detain us. We strain and strive for that highest point, even if it is only a foggy illusion to us on the present rocky crag of our mediocre life. And watch out because from up there things fall. What is happening here? Does someone not want me to reach that summit? Is this all just a big joke to the one hurling boulders down upon my dreary head? I don’t think so…those are just reminders to be cautious as you climb. And isn’t it true that the harder and more harrowing the climb, the sweeter the finish. Only in this case, the finish looks so much like the beginning…and so the cycle of life spins…ready for the next climber.
