Reason #322: Blasting BP…Now Ain’t That Slick
The handful that stumble onto this blog on more than one occasion are probably thinking to themselves, “damn, Costa Rica Guy, getting awfully political lately, aren’t we?” Well, truth is, politics does have a pretty large impact on the world we have to live in and that to me makes it a topic worth writing about. Anyways, in some small way, I would like to think that the message emanating from this blog would have an impact on somebody, somewhere. If that happens, well it was worth every syllable printed in cyberspace. I have been watching like an innocent bystander this environmental catastrophe that is the BP oil spill in the Gulf. Anyone who knows this blog, probably already has a good idea of what I think. But you know what, I am sort of amused as all these politicos, especially on the conservative side, line up to blast BP. If my recollection serves me, wasn’t one of the main campaign mantras of Sarah Palin, “drill baby drill?” Well I guess we’re learning (all over again…but to much larger proportions) just how “messy” old Jed Clampett’s “black gold” can be. Not to speak of the wars it inspires, why wouldn’t it just occur naturally that drilling holes in the bottom of the ocean in order to bring the stuff up from the fiery depths of hell wouldn’t one day escape our control? And escape it has. BP, nor anyone else, seems to have the foggiest idea about what to do to stop the erupting oil over one mile down below the surface of the Gulf. And so now the political gamesmanship begins as conservatives try ironically to turn this into “Obama’s Katrina.” The same ones who decry at every opportunity the evils of Cap and Trade, now are blasting BP and Obama in a ridiculous attempt at appearing to be on the “green side.” What happened to “drill baby drill?” You know, maybe there is a lesson to be learned from this. Maybe it is that our addiction to oil (foreign AND domestic) is something we need to at least begin to wean ourselves from. Maybe we should stop resisting any attempt to do so. In reality, it doesn’t seem that mother nature likes our addiction all that much, seeing how she gave us many alternative sources of energy that we are loathe to make use of. Oil is easy as long as it stays inside our gas tanks, but once it gets out, boy what a mess, huh?

365 Reasons I Love Costa Rica

Hi there Costa Rica Guy,
I just happened upon your blog. Nice! I have had Costa Rica on my mind since Dec. 2009, meaning that’s where I plan to visit for 2010. But now, we have this horrible oil spill.
When is enough, enough? How many times do we have to have accidents, holes, mistakes, or whatever the excuse of the day is before we stop with this oil seeking life style? When will we, as a nation, start using the many other choices that are in planning, or past planning stages? Why are all the alternative projects proposed to replace oil debated as a bad idea = shot down. So experiencing this horrific oil spill is better? Heck No!
You are correct about Sarah Palin’s cheer “Drill baby drill’. Hearing those words together makes the hair on my neck stand up, and makes my stomach want to throw up. Senseless words! Yeah, vote for me and our oceans will be a mixture of over half oil. Plus, you will never be allowed to swim, ski, jet ski, sailboat, or eat any fish/food from ocean again. That is such a comforting thought – NOT NOT NOT.
It really gets my panties in a bunch when I think about the decades of constant stupidity and blaming regarding oil spills and finding alternative methods for fuel. It makes no sense. Just hush up and start cleaning up the mess.
I do have a selfish question Costa Rica Guy. Do you think that Costa Rica will be recovered by early September for someone who has never been there to enjoy a vacation?
Good luck to all – Regards, ~ Think Clear ~

Hi, I know this is perhaps quite strange to read, but your blog inspires me to get through my day, when my boss is getting on my nerves constantly A bunch of my buds told me about it but I could not find it for some time, so a few days ago I was so happy to finally stumble upon it! Myself, I don’t blog at all because I simply don’t have the time nonetheless I do admire other people’s work. I just need to comment to show my gratitude for your posts and I also wanted to let you know that many authors don’t get any credit for their work, credit that is, in my opinion well deserved. Given the topic you may not think this is real and perhaps doubt that any person could like it so much, but I truly want you to carry on with this. It’s great!
I still can’t believe Palin has her own freaking reality tv show. Can anyone have a reality show these days? And it’s glaringly evident that she is only doing it to get people’s attention so that she can run for president of the United States. The most horrifying part is that what with the way everyone idolizes reality show stars, it’s just demented enough to work. I’m not exactly an exorbitant liberal or anything, but I think anybody with a brain on either side of the political aisle should be able to tell why we wouldn’t want a woman like Sarah being in charge of the free world.
