Reason #330: A Word of Encouragement

Dear President Obama:

With oil that is supposed to be powering our SUVs now spreading over the Gulf like the swine flu, with almost every single person knowing, or being, someone unemployed, with scandals, real or contrived, rapaciously knocking at the door of the oval office, with Fox News devoting 100% of its air-time and attention to your demise, with conservatives now even questioning the sagacity of your efforts to win the war against terror, with no one giving you one iota of credit for passing universal health care for the first time in U.S. history, you may be feeling a little depressed these days…I know I would. But like the ancient proverb says, “it’s always darkest just before the dawn.”  I want to remind you of a vow I once heard in the midst of the health care legislation battle (a battle that you won, remember).  It was, ”I don’t quit.”  So, don’t quit!  There are still a few of us that believe in you.  There are still a few of us who don’t blame you for BP’s disaster brought down upon the rest of us like a crashing comet, nor expect you to swim to the briny depths and plug the leak with your mighty index finger.  There are a few of us who can see through the efforts at painting you with each of the calamities brought on by capitalism run amok and unsustainable consumption as nothing more than a political power play.  There are a few of us who can see the method to your madness, which to us is not madness at all…that now IS the time to understand and seize the opportunities flowing from a greener economy and less dependence on oil, both foreign AND domestic.  So don’t give up hope President Obama. Remember that word, “hope,” as it played a crucial role in placing you in the position you might be thinking twice right now of having aspired to.  And it is that same word, “hope,” that can lift you and us all to greener pastures, but only if you don’t quit.  God speed to you.

Sincerely,

Costa Rica Guy
