The Evolution of an Idea

The only good ideas are big ideas. Or, better, the only good ideas are those with really big targets, or widely dispersed focal points. But, is that really true? The guys saying that usually have unlimited resources to pursue really big, diffuse, conquer the world ideas. Truth is, my ideas usually start out that way. And because of that, they usually never move me from square one. However, I have in my ripe old age begun to notice an interesting phenomena. That is, that the more I think about an idea, the narrower it grows. What is encompassed within the idea becomes smaller and smaller as the circle becomes tighter and tighter until, presto, I achieve some level of clarity. It is then that I actually know what it is I really want to do….and that provides the impetus for the doing. Have you ever experienced this? I like to think of it as “the evolution of an idea.” A bright idea really isn’t so bright at first. The heat of the initial inspiration may signal that it is, but when you start to really think it through, things begin to get a bit hazy….at least that is my personal experience. You know, you start to play your own devil’s advocate, or, better still, have someone else play it for you, and suddenly thorny questions begin to pop up. Like, yea that all sounds great but how, who, when, what and the even larger question, why? I believe if you can come to a firm understanding of that last one you may really be on to something. Because it is in answering that “why” question that the idea begins to narrow to a finely tuned point of potential brilliance and your thinking on the whole subject begins to crystallize. I recently have been struck with such grandiose inspiration. Actually the idea at issue has been with me for quite a while, but has gone through many iterations of crystallization. It seems that recently I have come to a clearer understanding about the ”why” of it all and that has really helped me to at least begin to dislodge from my firmly entrenched placement on square one. Square one can really be an intractable place. That’s because the fog of really big thinking hasn’t lifted and you really haven’t the slightest clue where square two is located. It could be right in front of you, but your mind is too a whirl with its conquer the world conceptions. My advice based on personal experience….let go of those notions and focus on answering the not-so-simple but very direct question…..why? And, no, it’s not the economy, stupid!

Las únicas ideas buenas son las grandes ideas. O, mejor dicho, las únicas ideas buenas son las que tienen objetivos muy grandes, o muy dispersos los puntos focales. Pero, ¿es eso realmente cierto? Los chicos dicen que por lo general tienen recursos ilimitados para perseguir realmente grandes, difusas, conquistar el mundo ideas. La verdad es que mis ideas por lo general comienzan de esa manera. Y debido a eso, nunca me suele pasar de cero. Sin embargo, tengo en mi edad madura empezado a notar un fenómeno interesante. Es decir, que cuanto más pienso en una idea, más estrecho que crece. ¿Qué está incluido dentro de la idea se hace más pequeño y más pequeño que el círculo se vuelve más y más fuerte hasta que, presto, que alcanzar un cierto nivel de claridad. Es entonces cuando realmente sabemos qué es lo que realmente quieres hacer …. y que proporciona el impulso para el hacer. ¿Alguna vez has experimentado esto? Me gusta pensar en ella como “la evolución de una idea.” Una brillante idea realmente no es tan brillante en un primer momento. El calor de la inspiración inicial puede ser una señal de que es, pero cuando empiezas a realmente pensar en ello, las cosas se ponen un poco confuso …. al menos esa es mi experiencia personal. Usted sabe, usted comienza a hacer de abogado del diablo a su propio, o, mejor aún, tener a alguien que juega el diseño, y de repente cuestiones espinosas comenzar a aparecer. Al igual, sí que suena muy bien pero todos los cómo, quién, cuándo, qué y la pregunta aún más grande, ¿por qué? Yo creo que si se puede llegar a un firme entendimiento de que una última que realmente puede ser en algo. Sin embargo, es responder a esa pregunta por qué la idea de que empieza a reducir a un punto de afinado de la brillantez y potencial de su forma de pensar sobre todo el tema comienza a cristalizar. Hace poco me ha llamado la atención con la inspiración grandiosos. En realidad la idea en cuestión ha estado conmigo desde hace un tiempo, pero ha pasado por muchas iteraciones de la cristalización. Parece que últimamente me he vuelto a comprender un poco mejor el por qué de todo esto y que me ha ayudado a comenzar por lo menos para desalojar de mi colocación firmemente arraigada en el punto de partida. Un cuadro realmente puede ser un lugar difícil solución. Esto es debido a la niebla de pensar muy grande no ha levantado y que realmente no tengo la menor idea de dónde se encuentra el proximo. Podría ser justo en frente de usted, pero su mente está también un torbellino con su conquista de las concepciones del mundo. Mi consejo basado en la experiencia personal …. dejar de lado los conceptos y se centran en responder a la pregunta simple y directa ….. ¿por qué? Y, no, no es la economía, estúpido!
